TKF Holds Global Conference to Envision Yemen Beyond War
Tawakkol Karman Foundation will hold a conference entitled "Post-War Yemen: A Forward-looking Vision"
Held in Istanbul Turkey, the conference brings together researchers, experts, and activists to envision Yemen beyond war.
The gathering will focus on three main themes:
1. Possible scenarios for the end of the war, the shape of the state and the system of government in light of the imagined end of the conflict.
2. The future of regional and international influence in post-war Yemen.
3. Post-war priorities, namely transitional justice as an entry point for ending the conflict and reconstruction.
Five years of war in Yemen has created the worst humanitarian crisis on earth. Ten million people in the country are close to famine and eighty percent of the population is in need of aid, according to the UN. Every ten minutes a child dies.
With the devastating impact of this war on people’s lives, the conference aims to shine a light on solving Yemen’s conflict and make ending this war a priority for international partners.
“The conference carries a message of hope and peace that war must end, and we should be ready when the time comes. We now envision and plan for the rebuilding and the recovery of the future of Yemen,” said Tawakkol Karman, 2011 Nobel Price Laureate and the founder of the Tawakkol Karman Foundation.
